Jersey Cows.
Welcome to my website
about Jersey cows - with lots of photos of my Jersey house and
nurse-cows! I
love
this gorgeous looking breed of cow very much and I'd like to share with
you some of my experiences of having owned and bred some of these
delightful girls on my smallholding.
Here in New Zealand, we use the term 'house-cow'
for the cow that is kept to supply the household milk. In other parts
of the world she is known in as a 'family cow.'
The house-cow is traditionally kept in the paddocks nearest the house
for convenience sake, as she will need milked twice a day if she doesn't
have a calf or calves on her.
Jerseys are a breed that produce milk with a particularly good
milk-solid and protein content, and if managed well, will supply all the
milk you need for drinking, cooking, cheese and butter-making and yogurt
for 9 or 10 months of the year, as well as raising a calf or two for the
freezer. Often she will produce more milk than ones household can use
and the surplus will be used to raise other calves, pigs or it can be
fed to the chooks.
I hope you'll enjoy having a browse around my site and will visit again
soon as I will be adding more content and photos in the near future.
You'll find some of my favourite cow photos on each webpage and in the
Gallery. Please respect my copyright by not downloading my photos.
